Maddison Moved!

So Friday night we loaded and packed all of Maddison's stuff (well, most of it).  Turns out, the truck she rented wasn't big enough to hold both her stuff AND her friend Kyle's so there are still several boxes left here that she will hopefully come get by the end of the month!  Yes, we were at it for about 5 hours but she's off!

My mom was a good cleaner and
was also amazed at the amount
of tupperware we had been hoarding...
most of it was hers that she sent us home

Easter Celebration!

Since Maddison is leaving on Friday, my mom decided to have Easter during the week!  Of course, we had to have a theme and a photo shoot.  So we all wore a green outfit and our neighbor took our picture.  It was a fun night had by all!  Complete with ham, sweet potatoes, cream corn, ambrosia salad, strawberry shortcake and rum runners :)

Honeysuckle-Color of the Year

In case any of you don't know, Honeysuckle is Pantone's 2011 Color of the Year and boy do I love it!  If you're not a pink fan persay, it might not be your cup of tea, but I just love the shade!  It has been described as a color that "emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life."  I agree!!   Stay tuned to see Honeysuckle in our wedding invitations!

Do you think Dan would ever let me paint a room like this?  Maybe just one wall?!

Dog Update

Ah yes...the ever so famous "Insert dog name and add POO" to the end of it!  This is a Cavapoo!  My friend Caroline and I went for a walk around Lake Calhoun on Sunday and the nice weather brought out everyone and their dog, literally!  We spotted this one and stopped to ask the girl what kind it was!  It was too cute to pass up!  Now we're both convinced that we need this puppy and our lives will be complete :)

Duvet Set...Love to Martha

It seems like Dan & I are really embracing our inner Martha and, subsequently, inviting her into our new home by way of: mixing bowls, bake pans and throw pillows.  Almost everything we like has that signature "Martha Stewart Living" tag and we find ourselves subcoming to her infamous ingenuity and style again and again.  Now, bedspreads are kind of a huge deal.  I feel like they really set the tone of the whole room especially if you choose one with a pattern or a bold color.  You can't really veer away from your chosen "feel" or color scheme once this is chosen.  For those of you who know me, you can imagine how difficult it was for me to (for the first time in my life) consider a male perspective when it comes to bedspreads.  Wait...what?  I have to share this with someone else?  And a guy at that?  And wait.  Hold up.  We can't have pink?  Purple?  Teal?  Oh man..."this is gonna be tough", I thought.  Don't get me wrong, it's not like I want my own room!  It's just something that the girl who had no brothers or even boy dogs and lived in a sorority house with 41 other girls needs to adjust to!  So, that leads us to another steal alert for ya'll...with Martha's main ingredients and a little sprinkle of "Mature Married Couple" style!

Regularly priced at $229.00 in the store, you can all safely assume I would never pay that.  After finding the online sale price of $99.00, we added a Macy's Star Rewards coupon for an extra 15% off.  Yay!  I dont' think it's too feminine or masculine and I'm pretty excited about the brick red and funky dark orange medallions! Throw in the on sale red ruffly pillow at Home Goods and we're set!  Done!

PS - Shout out to my friend Anna who loves red.  This one's for you.

New Carpet...Decision Made!

The new carpet decision has finally been made!  What a process!  First we had to decide what rooms needed re-carpeting.  Our new house has some carpet that is new and some that needs replacing.  In the end, we decided to get new carpet for the office, basement and one of the guest bedrooms.  After having what seemed like a thousand sample boards of carpet in my apartment for weeks (mind you, there is no extra room in this apartment for anything let alone large carpet sample boards), we were able to narrow our choices down to these three and received the larger samples to compare.  And the winner is: the middle one!  We thought it would brighten up the rooms and not be too brown or gold colored.  It also has some good specks in it!  Titled: Winter Mist!

Shout out to:  Matt from Floor Coverings International

Bye Bye Purple Walls...

Well, it's been a good ride purple walls!  You were the perfect addition to our bachelorette pad for the past 2 years.  We will miss you...

My sister moves to Chicago this Friday, April 15th and Dan and I close on our house in 12 days! (April 22).  So we have to prime all of the walls back in our apartment...sad, sad day!

I'm starting a puppy campaign.  We're not ready for this responsibility now but I just can't imagine our house without a dog!  Here are some pictures of the dog I hope we can someday get!  King Charles Cavalier :)

Honey Bee :)

Dan and I watched a country awards show on Sunday night (it seems like there are so many different ones so I apologize for not knowing the exact name!)  Blake Shelton performed his new song "Honey Bee" and we loved it!  I don't want to make you all sick, but we jokingly call each other dumb names and Honey Bee is often used!  Very cute, might have to download this one...here are some lyrics:
If you’ll be my soft and sweet
I’ll be your strong and steady
You be my glass of wine
I’ll be your shot of whiskey

You be my sunny day
I’ll be your shade tree
You be my honeysuckle
I’ll be your honey bee

Steal Alert!

Major steal!  While out registering, we found these stools to scan for our little breakfast bar in the kitchen, when suddenly we noticed the price!  On clearance for $12.48!  Yes, $12.48 each!  It was practically a no brainer.  We liked the cushion and color and several other stools without cushions were much more expensive!  I want to sit on something soft while enjoying my cereal! :)  I'm even more content with our impulse buy after just now checking the online price: $94.99 each.  STEAL!

Engagement Party!

Our Engagement Party was one of the best times ever!  My parents hosted it at their house and we had a bunch of friends and family over for a BBQ and lawn games!  It was great for my parents to meet a lot of Dan's extended family (there are many more to meet still!) and just to celebrate!  I was so nervous it might rain with everything we had planned outside but we couldn't have asked for a prettier day!  Thank you to my bridesmaid Anna and Dan's mom  for taking the pictures!

What a great party!

 I'll never forget it!

Cupcake Flower :)

Since Dan and I knew we'd be engaged for 16 months, the one year mark was kind of huge for us!  We were told it meant we could truly start our "countdown" and I was happy to not answer the question of "When's the big day?" with "NEXT September" with a swift arm motion signaling the next calendar year.  Needless to say, my sister knew the importance as well and sent me this adorable cupcake flower to my work on the "one year 'til our wedding"!

House of Hope Presbyterian

This is where we're getting married!  As much as I love thinking about the reception decor, music the DJ will play, the food and all the frills, I know this will be the most special part of the day for me.  I can't wait to walk out those front doors married to Dan!  The picture on the left is when I brought Deb, Dan's mom, to see the church for the first time when she was in town one weekend.  She cried she loved it so much!  We both love the bell tower!  I became a member of this church last Spring and Dan and I have been going as many Sundays we can since then.  We love the music and the old feel of it!  Can't wait!

Bridesmaid Dresses!

Have I mentioned that I love my bridesmaids?  I had so much fun with them going to get them all measured for their bridesmaid dresses in Stillwater one weekend!  Molly brought these amazing cups with champagne, so adorable!  Thank you all for coming and being apart of the wedding!  It really means the world to me!

Mailing the Save the Dates-The Episode

A few months ago, the save the dates were finally mailed!  What a huge project to complete!  Of course, I can never accomplish anything without a long winded story about how dramatic it was and descriptions of all the hurdles I had to jump over.  So, here it goes!  Basically, it boiled down to the mailing being too bulky for normal postage.  As most of you know, there was a balloon in each envelope.  Being the paranoid person that I am, I also did not want the envelope run through any sorting or stamping machine at the post office.  I mean, how much time did we put into making these perfect?  I wanted them to arrive at the recipients' doors perfect too- gosh darn it!  I had heard about this little tiny post office in Bridal Veil, Oregon that mailed bridal invitations without running them through the machine, therefore, "hand cancelling" the postage individually.  I thought this was an urban legend, but after reading several blogs talking about this post office, I decided I'd see if it was true and then possibly we could send out save the dates from there.  I know what you're thinking and I agree, not a huge deal if the envelope is a little crinkly, right?  But I had heard horror stories and I would be so sad if someone got a balloon with holes in it or a torn card!

So, I called the post office in Oregon and, surprisingly, I got a cheerful, "Hello!  Bridal Veil Post Office, this is Geri, can I help you?"  I think I stammered a little and then finally uttered something like, "Geri?  Are you for real?  Is it true?"  haha!  In the end, she confirmed that, yes, they do hand stamp all envelopes and there is a small fee per envelope after the first 50, etc. etc.  I thought great!  A little extra charge, but let's do it!  Ok, most of my life I have had my clearest thoughts right before I fall asleep and during this engagement has been no different.  So right before my little eyes fell shut one night, I realized that there has to be a "small town" post office in Minnesota just like this Bridal Veil one that I could simply drive to. I mean Minnesota is full of small towns!  I had heard of brides trying to go to post offices and asking the clerks to use the "hand stamp" themselves.  One girl on a wedding blog said she had to bring cookies to the staff for a week before she could convince them to hand over the precious stamp to her, which I guess is, ultimately, illegal.  So the next day I went on a research spree to find a po-dunk post office closer to home that would let me stamp my precious envelopes.  After a few no's and a couple laughs out loud at such an absurd question, I finally reached an angel from above, Darren from the Lake City post office.  Just a little town outside of my hometown of Red Wing (Red Wing post office said absolutely not, by the way), the clerk said "Well, of course!  Come on over!"  GREAT!!  Problem solved.  So I asked my mom to come with me (she loves Lake City) and we drove the 1.5 hours to stamp each of the close to 400 envelopes by hand.  Yes, I can't believe we did this.  The End!
