Overboard with Labels!

Have you ever started a project that you thought would take maybe an hour and turned into an entire night and morning?  Well, this was that project for me.  I actually didn't even plan on doing it at all but then the organizational fairy sprinkled her dust on me and I was propelled into cubby/bin bliss!  I think I just wanted to make banana bread one night when Dan was out of town and then all of a sudden I was throwing things out, donating food to the "postman food shelf" collection, disinfecting everything in sight and running to Target to buy organizational bins.  Not to mention creating laminated food labels....what?

Our main obstacle in our kitchen is that it does not have a pantry.  We did notice this when buying the house but it was one of those "gives" in the "give and take" game of purchasing a home.  We have definitely found a way around it though with the corner cabinet and under the breakfast bar counter.  First step, take everything out!

All clean!  Many people make fun of these bins because we, honestly, don't have that much food in our house at any time so what's listed is literally all that's in there and all that we eat!

After tackling the kitchen, I was fully inspired by labels and got completely carried away!  Next stop, the closet!  I must have tossed out 10 pairs of socks that had holes or didn't fit right.

And then I went to the garage!

I found the bins at Ikea for a great price and they are just the right size!

So there you have it!  I went on a labeling rampage!  But it just makes life so much easier! :)

Steamboat!

We finally had a chance to go to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for a group ski trip!  In the past, we have been unable to go to with friends because Dan was always in busy season when he worked at Deloitte.  But now that he's at his new job, there is no busy season!  So away we went!

We had a blast skiing, hot tubbing, going to Winter Carnival events, and strolling around town!  We stayed at our friends John and Becky's parents' amazing home!

Memory Corner

A much delayed post but better late than never right?!  Below is a photo of our basement during our home inspection.  I knew right away that I wanted this potentially awkward "nook" to be something cool.  But what?

I was inspired by different wainscoting on Pinterest and absolutely love photo galleries so I decided to combine the two and create a little eating area.  We have a great contractor that's been to our house a few times so I asked him to build just 2 small walls of beadboard and told him I would paint it after.  One of my old sorority sisters actually had a piece of leftover wainscoting as well so her husband dropped it off for us and that helped to cut down on the cost as well!

After painting a couple of coats, I collected the picture frames and found the perfect little table and chairs!  The chair is from Pier 1 and the chairs are from Target.com.

Definitely an improvement I think! :)
